What is puck lights

Puck lights, named after their disc-shaped design resembling a hockey puck, are small lighting fixtures commonly used to illuminate cabinets, shelves, and other areas that require localized lighting.

The origin of puck lights can be traced back to the development of lighting technology. As electricity became more widespread, electric lights gradually replaced traditional gas lamps and candles. In the early 20th century, lighting began to be incorporated into home decor and interior design.

Puck lights, as a specific type of lighting fixture, may have initially been used for illuminating kitchen cabinets. Traditional cabinet lighting methods typically involved long fluorescent tubes installed either above or below the cabinets. However, with advancements in lighting technology, compact and efficient puck lights gained popularity.

With the advancements in LED (Light Emitting Diode) technology, puck lights have seen further improvements in design and functionality. LED puck lights offer the advantages of small size, low energy consumption, high brightness, and long lifespan. They provide bright and even illumination, making items inside the cabinets more visible and creating unique lighting effects in kitchens and other spaces.

Today, puck lights have become a common lighting choice in both residential and commercial settings. They are widely used in kitchens, display cabinets, cupboards, bookshelves, and other areas that require localized lighting. As technology continues to evolve, the design and functionality of puck lights will continue to advance to meet the changing lighting needs.
